Pupil support

At our school, the Pupil Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting the emotional, social, and personal development of our students. A wide range of targeted 1:1 interventions are provided to help pupils thrive both in and out of the classroom. These include support with peer relationships, online safety, emotional regulation (including the use of Zones of Regulation and personalised toolkits), conflict resolution, safety awareness, and overall wellbeing.

Additionally, the Pupil Support Worker delivers THRIVE sessions—a specialised programme focused on identifying and addressing gaps in social and emotional development. These sessions are tailored to individual needs and aim to build emotional resilience and self-confidence.

The school also offers Drawing and Talking intervention—a gentle, non-intrusive approach that allows children to express their feelings through creativity. This method is particularly helpful for students who require emotional support and can also positively impact their learning.

To further enhance the support available, the Pupil Support Worker also works closely with a range of external agencies such as MHST (Mental Health Support Teams), Participation Works, SafeNet, PLDT, CFW and many more, ensuring a joined-up approach to meeting each pupil’s individual needs.

Through these supportive interventions and collaborative partnerships, the Pupil Support Worker ensures that every child receives the guidance they need to feel safe, understood, and empowered.

Ridgewood Community High School Proudly Partners with Pol-Ed

At Ridgewood Community High School, we are proud to be part of Pol-Ed, a police-led education initiative designed to promote positive relationships between young people and the police. This collaboration supports our commitment to providing a well-rounded and engaging PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum, helping our students develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become responsible and informed members of society.

Our involvement with Pol-Ed complements the important work led by Miss Mansfield, our dedicated Pupil Support Worker, who plays a key role in supporting students' emotional well-being, personal development, and social awareness. Through a combination of classroom learning and real-world engagement, students gain a deeper understanding of issues such as community safety, citizenship, and the law.

We believe that initiatives like Pol-Ed not only enhance our curriculum but also strengthen the sense of community within our school, empowering our students to make positive choices and build respectful relationships both in and outside of school.
